Eight people, including a woman, were injured on Wednesday (October 8, 2025) when a blast went off on two scooters parked in a busy market in Kanpur, the police said. The incident was reported from Mishri bazaar in the Moolganj area of the city at around 7 p.m. The area is known for its firecracker market. After the incident, police recovered a large quantity of illegal firecrackers and cotton bombs from several locations, including a garment shop. Preliminary investigations have revealed that firecrackers were being illegally stored and sold in the area, according to the police. “Following the explosion in the trunk of a scooter parked in front of Abdullah’s shop in the Moolganj police station area, the police have taken immediate action and are conducting a search and seizure operation with the fire brigade, bomb disposal squad, and forensic team,” said Raghubir Lal, a senior police officer. #WATCH | Kanpur, UP | Police officials inspect the spot where a blast occurred in two parked scooters in the Mishri Bazaar area under the Mulganj police station today. About the incident local residents and shopkeepers told media persons that they heard a loud noise explosion, following which smoke and debris filled the area.
