Oct. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and son-in-law Jared Kushner were scheduled to arrive in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Wednesday as negotiations to finalize the White House's cease-fire plan for Gaza entered a third day.

The pair will go straight into an "expanded meeting" with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, the prime minister of Qatar, who is also in Egypt for the talks, that will likely also be attended by chief Israeli negotiator Ron Dermer, according to CNN.

High-level officials from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, who are acting as mediators in the Israel-Hamas negotiations, which are indirect, held bilateral talks beforehand.

Wednesday's developments were expected to be a pivotal litmus test for the prospects for advancing Trump's 20-point blueprint for peace.
