As part of the 71st Wildlife Week celebrations, a walkathon themed ‘Human-Wildlife Coexistence’ was organised by the Hunsur wildlife division in Hunsur on Monday.Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman Ayub Khan flagged off the walkathon in the presence of Ravishankar S.S., Conservator of Forests, Mysuru circle; Seema P.A., Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director, Nagarahole National Park; and Mohammad Fayazuddin, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Hunsur division.On the occasion, several information stalls were set up on the Hunsur wildlife division office premises to create awareness on snakebite prevention, the activities of the Elephant Task Force and Leopard Task Force, and the afforestation initiatives of the Forest Department aimed at enhancing green cover and mitigating human-animal conflict.Students and staff from various government departments participated in the walkathon.Later, a volleyball tournament was organised at Gurupura Gram Panchayat in the taluk. Paramesh L., Deputy Conservator of Forests, Mysuru division, was the chief guest at the event.The tournament, titled ‘Arjuna Cup’ in memory of late Dasara elephant Arjuna, witnessed participation from 12 teams.
