For decades, drivers heading to a picturesque Bedfordshire village have been left baffled by a trio of different spellings appearing on road signs but now, officials have finally settled the debate once and for all.

The village, which has appeared as Yelden, Yielden and even Yieldon on signs across the area, has been the source of confusion for motorists and delivery drivers alike.

But Bedford Borough Council has now confirmed that the correct spelling is 'Yelden.'

The inconsistent signage has caused chaos for years, with visitors and satnavs struggling to pinpoint the correct location.

In official documents and social media posts as recently as January last year, the council had used the spelling 'Yielden' adding to the uncertainty.
