The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (BCTNP) has strongly condemned the act of a 71-year-old lawyer who flung papers at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai during the court proceedings on Monday. It has urged the Supreme Court to initiate appropriate action against the lawyer to uphold the majesty of the judiciary.

In a message jointly signed by Bar Council of India (BCI) vice-chairman S. Prabakaran, BCTNP chariman P.S. Amalraj and vice-chairman V. Karthikeyan, the BCTNP said, the untoward incident had caused much anguish and deep pain to the members of the Bar since it was an attack on the institution and democracy itself.
