A recent interaction between Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray has raised the possibility of a pre-poll alliance ahead of civic elections in Maharashtra. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said on Monday (October 6, 2025) that the meeting was political in nature and that discussions are progressing.

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Mr. Raut said that the two leaders have agreed to explore collaboration in major municipal corporations, including Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli, Nashik, and Pune.

Shiv Sena (UBT) open to alliance with MNS for Maharashtra’s benefit, says Sanjay Raut

“There are several civic bodies where Shiv Sena (UBT) has a strong presence, while MNS is influential in others. The NCP (SP) and Congress also hold sway in different regions, particularly in Vidarbha. The personal and political rapport between the Thackeray cousins has grown stronger, and their talks have moved forward significantly,” he said.

He said that Mumbai’s next mayor would be a Marathi leader with true saffron values, who would not bend before Delhi.
