PHILADELPHIA — It began as nervousness, turned to frustration, morphed into anger, and then complete disgust Monday night as the Philadelphia Phillies’ fans loudly booed their hometown team with each passing inning at Citizens Bank Park.
Then, a funny thing happened.
The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen showed up.
The Dodgers’ bullpen melted down, doing everything possible to blow the game, only to survive a wild ninth inning and hang on for a 4-3 victory over the Phillies in Game 2 of the best-of-five National League Division Series.
The Dodgers used three different relievers in the ninth inning to get the final three outs, but rookie Roki Sasaki came to the rescue, retiring Trea Turner on a groundout for the final out.
