New York is eager to lead a regional quest to build out new nuclear to meet its rising energy demands, but beneath the enthusiasm are a flurry of questions over financial risk. At a Climate Week nuclear symposium in New York last week, government officials and industry representatives cautioned that investor confidence is lacking, as is supply chain and workforce capacity. But with an eye on risk mitigation and regional collaboration for fleet-mode deployment, New York is evaluating all options, including the potential restoration of retired nuclear reactors at Indian Point and new reactor deployment at the Nine Mile Point nuclear power plant.
