It is now time to pacify the Calabria region after a violent election campaign, victorious centre-right confirmed Governor Roberto Occhiuto said after beating the centre left's Pasquale Tridico on Monday.
"I thank the coalition leaders with whom I agreed on the decision I then took, leading Calabria to elections a year early," said the centre-right post Berlusconi Forza Italia (FI) member, who stepped down amid a corruption probe he says he is innocent of.
"But even more, I want to thank the Calabrians and I am even more proud of this result, which I believe will be even greater.
"I thank Tridico for his compliments.
"And I also asked him to collaborate with me in whatever role he decides to do so.
