Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader G. Sudhakaran seems to criticise the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government over the Sabarimala gold ‘theft’ scandal.

Speaking at the southern region Vichara Sadas of the Samskara Sahithi, the cultural wing of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), here on Monday, Mr. Sudhakaran said Kerala keeps claiming to be number one in everything, but we were also number one in gold theft.

“Everyone keeps competing to say that we are number one. We should ask ourselves whether we really need to say that. Are we number one in gold theft too,” Mr. Sudhakaran asked.

He said Kerala was number one in many areas, but in many other things, the State lagged behind. “Saying we are number one implies there is no room for growth. Other States also have many strengths. We are heirs of the great country called India,” he said.

The CPI (M) leader said he had been active in the party for 63 years. “It has been five years since I vacated all positions except party membership. I have not joined any other party. BJP leaders have come to my house and offered me positions, including the post of Governor. My faith lies in Marxism and Leninism. Even though this is a Congress platform, it does not prevent me from expressing my opinion. I was invited because I am a communist. I have never sold my ideology,” he said.
