Taylor Swift’s new “Showgirl” special dominated the box office this weekend.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter’s film, “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” brought in a whopping $33 million domestically and $13 million overseas during its three-day showing, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
By contrast, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s “The Smashing Machine,” an A24 drama about MMA fighter Mark Kerr that released in 3,345 theaters on Friday, brought in an estimated $6 million.
Swift’s film is roughly 90 minutes long and features music videos, lyric videos and behind-the-scenes footage, AMC’s website said. It concluded with the showing of a new music video for “The Fate of Ophelia,” a song on her new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.”
“It was simply a wonderful gift to her passionate and enthusiastic fans, who got to see, on our giant screens, behind-the-scenes footage and insight into ‘The Life of a Showgirl.’ AMC Theaters is so proud to have collaborated with Taylor,” AMC’s CEO Adam Aron said, according to Variety. “What an honor and privilege and joy it has been for us to once again play a role in her incomparable success.”
