J. Radhakrishnan, Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation, on Sunday inspected sites in Muppandal near Aralvaimozhi for establishment of new windmill and solar power generation plants.During the inspection, he said that Tamil Nadu Electricity Board currently operated 20 windmills with a generation capacity of 200 KW in areas under Muppandal. Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited’s (TNGECL) department officials were instructed to convert the windmills into higher capacity windmills. In addition, a site visit was conducted for setting up a solar plant with an additional capacity of 3MW.In order to discharge additional electricity generated in Muppandhal area, permission had been granted to construct a new 230 KW substation and a 2x750 KW windmill.Mr. Radhakrishnan also added that the Collector had appealed for improved road connectivity to the Kodhayar power plant, where around 35 employees were working. The employees now travelled through the reserve forest area in Tirunelveli district to reach the point. They had requested provision of a direct road facility from Kanniyakumari district, and steps would be taken to explore the feasibility of the proposal.Kanniyakumari Collector R.
