The top 10 of this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll definitely won’t include Penn State and Texas, two preseason College Football Playoff favorites who might be lucky to land somewhere in the back end of the Top 25 after ugly losses to UCLA and Florida, respectively.
That’s going to lead to some reimagining of the top seven and open up a pair of spots in the top 10 altogether. One seat will be filled by Alabama, which was No. 11 in last week’s poll but beat Vanderbilt for a second ranked victory in as many weeks.
Don’t look for any changes at the top. Ohio State will remain No. 1 after beating Minnesota 42-3, followed by Oregon and Miami. The Hurricanes beat Florida State 28-22, likely knocking the Seminoles out of the national rankings. Mississippi and Texas A&M will round out the top five.
Here's how the top 10 should look when the new Coaches Poll is released later on Sunday:
Three touchdown drives in a row in the first half helped the Buckeyes bury Minnesota 42-3. While Jeremiah Smith had 67 receiving yards and two touchdowns, the big star was Carnell Tate with 183 yards and a score on nine grabs.
