Attorney General Pam Bondi said the Department of Justice will be appealing the ‘woefully insufficient’ sentence for the would-be assassin of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.A Maryland federal judge sentenced Sophie Roske of Simi Valley, Calif., on Oct. 3 to eight years in prison for flying across the country to Kavanaugh’s house with a gun and other weapons. Federal prosecutors were seeking “at least 30 years to life.”“The attempted assassination of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a disgusting attack against our entire judicial system by a profoundly disturbed individual,” wrote Bondi in a post on X. “@TheJusticeDept will be appealing the woefully insufficient sentence imposed by the district court, which does not reflect the horrific facts of this case.”Roske, who pleaded guilty in April, apologized for putting Kavanaugh and his family through the incident in a five-page, handwritten note submitted to the judge Sept. 19.She said she had been undergoing therapy and said she realized that violence is not the solution.Roske was upset about a leaked Supreme Court draft decision overturning the right to abortion.
