The Namakkal police refused to give permission for the campaign of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami in the district on Sunday and Monday.
Mr. Palaniswami was scheduled to hold rallies in Tiruchengode and Komarapalayam Assembly constituencies on Sunday and Namakkal and Paramathi Velur Assembly seats constituencies on Monday. The police said the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had made it clear that no campaign or rally was to be allowed on State or National Highways. The places chosen by the AIADMK were on a State Highway. So, they were told to select new locations, the police added.
AIADMK functionaries said Mr. Palaniswami’s campaign in the district was postponed to October 8 and 9.
