Bari Weiss, the editor and founder of conservative publication The Free Press, will soon take the top role at CBS News, according to a new report.

An announcement that Weiss will become the editor in chief of CBS News could come as soon as Monday, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Paramount agreed to a deal with Weiss to buy The Free Press for around $150 million in cash and stock. Weiss’ 4-year-old media company focuses on “stories and provocative commentary about the world as it actually is — with the quality once expected from the legacy press, but the fearlessness of the new,” according to their website.

Stories from The Free Press have included a friendly interview between Weiss and tech-billionaire Peter Thiel and downplaying the starvation of kids in Gaza. A column published Thursday lauds the benefit of an AI “actress” because she “has no regrettable posts, and if you wish to see a virgin on-screen, this is one of your better chances.”

Paramount previously agreed to settle a lawsuit brought by President Donald Trump over edits made in a “60 Minutes” interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris before the 2024 elections. In July, Paramount agreed to pay Trump $16 million in what critics have described as a bribe to facilitate Paramount’s successful merger with Skydance.
