Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was hospitalized Saturday after being stabbed in Indianapolis, Indiana, in the early morning, then arrested for his alleged role in the incident later in the day.
Sanchez, now a commentator for Fox and Fox Sports 1, is facing charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department said in a statement on social media. The department noted that Sanchez remained hospitalized and had not been booked into jail.
Fox Sports said in a statement made prior to the news of Sanchez’s arrest that he was recovering from the injury and in stable condition.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support,” the statement continued. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Sanchez, 38, was reportedly scheduled to be part of the Fox Sports broadcast team covering Sunday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Indianapolis Colts at the Lucas Oil Stadium in town.
