The Other Backward Classes in Maharashtra will hold a protest march in Nagpur on October 10 against the government’s recent order to issue Kunbi certificates to Marathas. The OBC community fears that this will lead to Marathas seeking reservation under the OBC category. The OBC leaders held a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday (October 4, 2025), and handed over a memorandum of demands to him, primarily demanding the withdrawal of the government order issued on September 2, giving Kunbi certificates to Marathas.

“The CM had called for a meeting. But our demands have not been fulfilled. So we will go ahead with a mahamorcha on October 10,” Congress leader Vijay Waddettiwar said. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the government will give justice to each community, and that the government decision about the Kunbi certificates will not be used to the disadvantage of the OBC community.

The OBC leaders present at the meeting with the Chief Minister handed over a three-page memorandum to him with a list of nine demands. Not only did it demand the cancellation of the recent government order, but it also sought that the government stop issuing false Kunbi certificates to the Marathas. They demanded a white paper on the caste verification certificates and Kunbi certificates to the Marathas.
