The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday (October 3, 2025) labelled Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi as a “flag-bearer of anti-India forces”, citing his latest remarks at a university in Colombia about the “wholesale attack on the democratic system” in India.“It is ironic that those who have been perpetuating monarchy under the guise of democracy for the past 100 years are now giving speeches on democracy. This particularly when Narendra Modi, who used to sell tea on a railway platform, has been elected by the people as the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term,” BJP MP and spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said at a press conference.Mr. Trivedi said Mr. Modi was the biggest symbol of democracy and a symbol of India’s democratic maturity and expansion. Seeking to draw a contrast between the Congress and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he said over the past 100 years, the RSS always acted in the national interest.“The Congress was founded by a British officer, had British secretaries as its presidents for the first 25 years, and has been dominated by one family for the past 100 years...shocked over the organisation’s decline and loss of power, a member of that family, who seems to be an obedient servant of anti-India forces, has made yet another statement from abroad, which is not surprising,” he said.Experts in the CongressThe BJP leader alleged that the Congress was, whether knowingly or unknowingly, becoming a tool of anti-India forces. “When Rahul Gandhi travels abroad, why does he not take note of a case study by Cambridge University in December 2024 on India’s digital transformation under Mr. Modi?” he said, also citing some positive reports on India by some other international institutions of repute.“What kind of talent does Rahul Gandhi possess that makes these foreign universities invite only him? The Congress party has so many intelligent people — P. Chidambaram, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, and several others who are experts in their respective fields. Even Jairam Ramesh and Sam Pitroda are not invited... Rahul Gandhi gets invitations from universities abroad, but not by institutions in India,” Mr. Trivedi claimed. The BJP leader alleged that the Congress was making attempts to create rifts on the basis of caste, language, and region. “They want to pit different castes against each other...their entire agenda is clear,” he said.
