Police officers at a central London station allegedly pledged support for Tommy Robinson and bragged about using excessive force against suspects in custody.

The head of the Metropolitan Police has condemned the “reprehensible and completely unacceptable” behaviour of the officers, who work at Charing Cross police station.

Nine serving officers at the station have been suspended and are facing “likely dismissal” after an investigation by BBC’s Panorama, which was broadcast on Wednesday evening. One officer is being criminally investigated, the police watchdog has confirmed.

Undercover filming shows officers in the custody unit making anti-Muslim, misogynistic and racist remarks. Excessive force was believed to have been used against a minor in custody, but it is understood this was not captured on film.
