Donald Trump adviser Stephen Miller whined Tuesday about California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) office calling him a “fascist.” The White House deputy chief of staff leaned into right-wing chatter that the term is driving people on the left to violence during an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
But some critics pushed back by sharing many instances of Miller calling Democrats and their causes “fascist” or “fascism.” Like, a lot of them.
Building on Hannity’s assertion that the left’s use of “fascist” and other terms is motivating the fringe and others against conservatives, Miller seemed to reference a social media exchange with Newsom’s press office this week in which the X account called Miller a fascist and repeated the claim when Miller asked why.
“Why did Gavin Newsom say Stephen Miller is a fascist?” Miller asked Hannity. “It is a message that his team is sending to all the crazies and lunatics out there. And we’re not going to absolve the Democrats of responsibility anymore. There’s a reason why all of these killers, all of these lunatics, all of these terrorists, adopt the same language. They say they’re trying to kill the fascists. They’re trying to stop the fascists. This is deliberate. President Trump is saying that we as a nation are not going to tolerate any more. And the joint terrorism task force at the FBI is gonna find these terrorists, and we’re going to put them behind bars, Sean.”
