Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Part of a 20-story apartment building collapsed in the Bronx, New York City, after a gas explosion Wednesday.

The explosion caused an incinerator shaft collapse around 8:10 a.m. EDT, according to the fire department. No injuries were reported, the department said.

The gas was turned off to the building, and at least 40 apartments were evacuated. Police K-9 units searched piles of debris for potential victims.

A post on X from the New York Fire Department said that a temporary shelter has been set up in a nearby community center.
