Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, is preparing to reopen after being closed Wednesday because of a bomb threat and an explosion in a residential building that also burned nearby cars.
At least one person is dead, and a suspect has been identified.
Special forces were sent to Lerchenau, a northern area of Munich, where residents reported shots and explosions. Oktoberfest is on the west side of the city.
There had been a bomb threat from the suspected attacker early Wednesday, city officials said. Munich police said the explosion was part of a domestic dispute, and a 57-year-old man is suspected of setting the building on fire. They said the man's 81-year-old German mother and his German-Brazilian daughter, 21, were injured. They are hospitalized. Police found hand grenades and tripwires, The Independent reported.
