t’s been almost 35 years since the world was introduced to Alan Gordon Partridge, a sports presenter on the Radio 4 satirical news programme On the Hour. From humble beginnings, the character has risen to greatness and bounced back more than once to become one of the most recognised and loved British comedy creations of the modern era.

After myriad appearances on the radio, television, on podcasts and through no fewer than three memoirs, it feels like we’ve learnt a lot about Alan throughout the years. And as Steve Coogan’s alter ego returns to our screens in How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge) on Friday, October 3 (BBC1, 9.30pm), the story of one of Norwich’s most famous sons is extended.

With such an enviable back catalogue of content to choose from, what better time than to rank every one of Alan’s major projects so far? But has our critic (like Bond) got Partridge wrong? Or does this ranking hit the back of the net for you? Let us know in the comments below.
