This Gandhi Jayanthi, readers can get a truly special offering from The Hindu — the October 2, 1969 edition, which marked the birth centenary of a man often described as the greatest Indian of the modern era, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869-1948).

This also includes a limited edition supplement, a special commemorative edition of The Hindu dated October 2, 2003, released for the paper’s 125th anniversary, focusing on the Mahatma’s life and the newspaper’s coverage on him.

“This is, as we noted at the time, a representation of the coverage of an epoch-maker by The Hindu, a newspaper of record, from 1896 during his time in South Africa till his death in New Delhi in 1948. We hope you will enjoy reading this collector’s edition,” said Suresh Nambath, Editor, The Hindu.

The archival edition traces Gandhi’s journey from his early years as an attorney and activist in South Africa, through his imprisonment and mass movements such as the Salt Satyagraha and the Quit India Movement, to the moment of India’s Independence.

In August this year, to mark the Independence Day, The Hindu had made available its historic edition of August 15, 1947 as a special edition.
