Doctors at SRM Global Hospitals, Kattankulathur, have successfully performed a complex, life-saving surgery on a 30-year-old patient with two dangerous aneurysms near the heart. The procedure combined open-heart and minimally invasive techniques, a press release said.The patient was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm and an innominate artery aneurysm. The surgical team carried out a redo sternotomy, hemiarch replacement, and innominate artery reimplantation to restore blood flow. The patient has since recovered well, the release added.Coinciding with World Heart Day, SRM Global Hospital formally launched its Centre of Excellence in Aortic Surgery under the Institute of Cardiac Sciences to provide advanced treatment for high-risk aortic conditions. The surgery was led by T.R. Muralidharan, director, Institute of Cardiac Sciences, and Sujit I. Velayudhan, senior consultant cardiothoracic surgeon, with support from B. Nembian Raja Rajan, Srinath D., and R. Swaminathan.Dr. Muralidharan noted that the centre’s expertise and technology put its outcomes “on a par with the best in the world.” P.
