Indian Railways, in partnership with Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), will launch its first container train service with an assured transit time on a pilot basis from October 1, 2025.The bi-weekly service will run from Inland Container Depot (ICD) Tughlakabad in Delhi, to CONCOR’s CTCS terminal in Kolkata via Agra and Kanpur. It offers a guaranteed transit of 120 hours, which is a first for container services on this corridor. The dedicated train will follow the route: TICD (Delhi) – ICDY (Agra) – ICDG (Kanpur) – CTKR/CTCS (Kolkata). It will depart every Wednesday and Saturday. A hub-and-spoke model at Agra and Kanpur will allow for efficient cargo aggregation, expanding the service’s reach. To encourage adoption, CONCOR is also offering a waiver on empty wagon haulage charges from Tughlakabad to Kanpur.“This pilot project is expected to provide multiple advantages to customers, including door to door assured and reliable delivery for time-sensitive cargo, a competitive alternative to road transport, enhanced connectivity for northern hinterland cargo, and priority benefits for early adopters,” the Railway Ministry said in a press statement.
