A paedophile who fled abroad in the middle of his trial for molesting a 13-year-old girl has returned to Britain - and is now starting his lengthy jail term.

'Cowardly' Hassan Mahmood, 23, attempted to escape justice be running overseas during the second day of his court hearing in August for child sex offences.

The court hearing continued in his absence and he was later sentenced to five-and-a-half years behind bars for sexually assaulting the schoolgirl.

An international manhunt was later launched for the sex fiend, who flew first to Doha, Qatar, from Manchester, before later heading to Turkey. At the time it was thought he could be hiding in Pakistan.

He was arrested last night at Manchester Airport after flying back to the UK from Istanbul, Turkey, following a month on the run.
