A nursing home manager and two of her staff have admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice by covering up failings following the death of a resident.

Shirley Froggett, 84, caught pneumonia after an operation caused by her falling out of a wheelchair and fracturing her femur (thigh bone) while unattended at the New Lodge Nursing Home in Derby.

Home manager Lindsey Foster told staff members Nakeeba Ahmed and Prebina Thapa to lie to an inquiry into the death and say they had strapped Mrs Froggett into the wheelchair.

However, it emerged that the wheelchair she used didn't have a functioning buckle despite a nursing assessment stating that she should have one.

The two junior staff members later admitted they had been untruthful in their initial evidence.
