President Donald Trump warned Monday that he’ll starve New York City of federal funding if democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani wins the mayoral election.

Trump’s threat came after New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced the end of his mayoral reelection campaign on Sunday. The New York mayoral race is now a three-man competition between Mamdani, Republican Curtis Sliwa and former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

In a scathing Truth Social post on Monday, Trump, who hails from New York City, vowed to withhold funds to the Big Apple if Mamdani wins the race.

“Self proclaimed New York City Communist, Zohran Mamdani, who is running for Mayor, will prove to be one of the best things to ever happen to our great Republican Party,” he wrote. “He is going to have problems with Washington like no Mayor in the history of our once great City.”

Trump then claimed that Mamdani “needs the money” from him.
