For the first time in 45 years since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was founded, the party got its permanent address in the national capital’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg on Monday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art office, terming it“a centre for jan seva (public service)”.“ABJP office is no less sacred than a temple. It’sa strong link between the party and the people’s expectations,” Mr. Modi said at the event, with BJP president J.P. Nadda, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, party’s Delhi chief Virendra Sachdeva and other Ministers among the attendees.“We do not exist for power, but for service, and our offices are meant to nurture that spirit,” he added. The Delhi unit of the BJP operated for decades from temporary addresses – beginning from an office at Ajmeri Gate, then Rakabganj Road, and finally for almost 35 years from 14, Pandit Pant Marg, a bungalow allocated to party leader Madan Lal Khurana.Party leaders said the relocation to the new building will begin soon. Construction of the building began in June 2023, following the laying of the foundation stone by Mr. Nadda.‘Office is open 24x7’“Our office is open 24x7. It will be a sanskar kendra, a place where workers can learn about the organisation and its work,” Mr. Nadda said at the ceremony. He recalled how, in 2013, when Mr. Modi chaired the BJP’s campaign committee; the party still operated from a government bungalow at 11 Ashoka Road. “Under Amit Shah’s leadership, it was decided that BJP will have its own offices in every state and district. Today, 617 offices have been built, and this is the 618th,” he added. The five-storey sprawling office covers 825 square metres, comprising 30,000 square feet of built area. It is designed to be environment-friendly, equipped with modern facilities and also includes two basement levels for parking, said a Delhi BJP spokesperson. The ground floor houses a press conference hall, while the first floor features a 200-seater auditorium. The second floor will host offices of the party’s various morchas and cells.Offices for vice-presidents, general secretaries, and other office-bearers, along with a 50-seat conference room and a library, are located on the third floor. The fourth floor of the building accommodates the offices of the Delhi BJP president, general secretary (organisation) and in-charges, as well as a meeting room that can accommodate 15-20 people.Push for GST 2.0 reformsAddressing a gathering after the inauguration of the party office, Mr. Modi urged party workers to ensure that government benefits reach every household.“We have to ensure that the next-generation GST reforms benefit even the most common citizens. We must educate consumers and shopkeepers alike, and where the BJP is in opposition, our responsibility increases,” Mr. Modi said, highlighting several Delhi government’s initiatives, including building homes for slum dwellers, modernising hospitals and schools, adding electric buses to the city’s fleet, cleaning the Yamuna, and accelerating metro and flyover projects.Describing the Capital as a microcosm of India, the PM said, “Delhi is not just the political Capital but also the cultural diversity capital. It is home to a mini-India.”“From celebrating Sikh Gurus’ festivals to the 400th birth anniversary of Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan, to Chhath Puja, Durga Puja and Pongal – the Capital brings all of India together. We must ensure this spirit is reflected in our work,” he added. Published - September 30, 2025 01:21 am IST
