Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Monday that Chhath Puja will be celebrated on both banks of the Yamuna river, but warned that “immersion in the river is prohibited”.“The Chief Minister clarified that immersion in the Yamuna is prohibited under existing rules, and immersion does not form part of Chhath rituals,” the CMO said in a statement.After convening a high-level meeting, Ms. Gupta directed officials to prepare every stretch of the Yamuna for the celebrations. Traditional sites, such as ITO and Okhla ghats, will also be upgraded.Officials have been instructed to maintain complete cleanliness at all sites and to avoid dust-related inconveniences. To prevent this, they are to sprinkle water. Additionally, police and traffic personnel are to ensure robust safety and traffic arrangements. “Medical facilities will also be provided at the puja sites. The Irrigation Department has been directed to remove water hyacinth from the river. This year, special lighting arrangements will be made,” the statement read.
