Marchers who took to the streets in the Unite the Kingdom rally have been dubbed the ‘heirs to skinheads and Paki-bashers’ by Shabana Mahmood.
The Home Secretary, who was born in Birmingham to parents of Pakistani descent, told Labour party conference that in some demonstrators’ view she ‘has no place’ in Britain.
She opened her keynote speech with an analysis of the rally which saw 150,000 people take to the streets in central London on September 13.
‘While not everyone chanted racist slogans, some did, clear that in their view of this country, I have no place,’ said the Home Secretary.
‘It would be easy to dismiss this as nothing but an angry minority - heirs to the skinheads and Paki-bashers of old.
