The Knesset plenum has approved, in its second and third readings, a 2025 state budget amendment and a higher deficit ceiling to cover the growing costs of the war, passed by a majority of 55 in favor and 50 opposed – coming from the opposition and ultra-Orthodox lawmakers.

The amendment to the Budget Law and the Deficit Law authorizes a special "security box" of 30.8 billion shekels (around $9.3 billion), most of it retroactively covering the costs of Operation Gideon Chariots and the Israel-Iran war. To fund this, the deficit ceiling will rise to 5.2 percent of GDP, while the spending cap will increase to 650 billion shekels ($196 billion).
