Several tonnes of copra gutted as oil mill catches fire near Pollachi

Several tonnes of copra was damaged after a fire broke out in an oil mill near Pollachi in Coimbatore district late on Sunday.The Fire and Rescue Services said that the fire was reported at MKR Oil Industries at Akilandapuram, near Pollachi.The Pollachi fire station received an alert about the fire at 9.49 p.m. and fire brigades reached the oil mill at 9.58 p.m.An 11-member team headed by Station Officer N. Ganapathy engaged in firefighting till midnight to bring the fire under control.The oil mill had stocked several tonnes of copra for oil extraction, which were damaged in the fire along with many machineries. Though about 15,000 litres of coconut oil were also stored in the mill, the fire was put out before coming in contact with it. Published - September 29, 2025 08:32 pm IST
