"Grey's Anatomy" alumnus Eric Dane's family is "trying to have some hope" as they cope with his ALS diagnosis. His wife of more than 20 years, actress Rebecca Gayheart, told People on Sept. 26 that she and the actor's teen daughters, Billie and Georgia, are taking the 52-year-old actor's neurological disorder "day by day" and have sought the help of "professional therapists."Speaking at Step Up's 2025 Inspiration Awards in Los Angeles, the 54-year-old "Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood" actress was candid about the impact Dane's health has had on their family."I mean, it's heartbreaking. My girls are really suffering, and we're just trying to get through it. It's a tough time," she told People.Due to his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, Dane has lost use of his right arm. He's previously said it would only be a matter of time before the progressive disease impacts his left arm as well.Gayheart was also honest about struggling to find the silver lining in the situation, saying, "I don't think I'm at a place yet where I can pull out a positive nugget. I'm not there yet." She admitted that though she and Dane "are closer" amid his health struggles, "we don't like the reason why."The actress filed for divorce from Dane in 2018 after 14 years of marriage, but reportedly dismissed the case in March, according to E! and People. In April of this year, she hinted to E! that the two were no longer romantically involved as they co-parent their children."We're definitely dealing with something that has brought us all together, and Eric will always be my family, whether we're married or not, or living in the same house or not," she told People on Sept. 26. "It's a horrible disease, and I wish that there was a cure. I hope they find one soon, because it is just so sad.""I talk to her every day," Dane said of Gayheart in an interview with Diane Sawyer released June 16. "And she is probably my biggest champion, my most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her."Contributing: Taijuan Moorman, USA TODAY
