Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday (September 28, 2025) blamed the State government for the loss of 39 lives in the Karur stampede at TVK president and actor Vijay’s public meeting on Saturday (September 27, 2025) evening.Editorial | An avoidable tragedy: On the TVK rally, the stampedeAfter visiting the ICU ward at the Karur Government Hospital, where several of the injured are being treated, Mr. Palaniswami told reporters the tragedy was preventable. “We received information that there was a power shutdown during the event, and in that moment of confusion the congestion worsened. This led to the unfortunate incident,” he alleged.Condemning the police, he alleged both the ruling DMK and the TVK had failed to put adequate safety measures in place. “The party (TVK) has already held meetings in four districts. They should have learned from those experiences and made proper arrangements.
