Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss said on Saturday that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s rhetoric about being a champion of social equality would be believable only when the State government initiated a caste census in Tamil Nadu.Speaking to mediapersons here, he said many States in the country were conducting the exercise, while Karnataka had announced it following a directive from the High Court. However, the Chief Minister here continued to pass the buck to the Union government.Dr. Anbumani asserted that it was the duty and right of every State to carry out the exercise, and pointed out that schemes were being implemented in Tamil Nadu based on the 1930 caste census. “With the technology in hand, the caste census would cost about ₹500 crore. By deploying about 3 lakh people on the job armed with 70 questions, it can be completed in two months.” The DMK government was, in fact, doing injustice to the people of Tamil Nadu by not conducting the exercise. People should vote the party out in the 2026 Assembly election in a fitting manner, he said.Dr. Anbumani slammed the DMK government for its failures on many fronts. “Be it education, women’s safety, or safeguarding the downtrodden, the government had not kept its promises. The Scheduled Castes were the most affected population in the DMK regime,” he alleged. He added that the PMK would support any party that was in favour of a caste census, as the exercise was long overdue in the State. Later, in the evening, he addressed a public meeting in Dindigul city. Published - September 28, 2025 01:18 am IST
