:Andhra Pradesh Education, IT, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh announced a series of major initiatives in the State Assembly aimed at improving higher education infrastructure, transparency, and student opportunities.Responding to questions from legislators, Mr. Lokesh said an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate alleged irregularities at Sri Krishnadevaraya University during 2019-24, including misuse of funds for computer procurement, inappropriate use of university vehicles, unlawful promotions, and violations of reservation rules. The committee will submit its report within 100 days, and strict action will be taken against those found responsible.Mr. Lokesh emphasised that the government is committed to transparency, fairness, and empowering students and staff alike, while cautioning against politically motivated disruptions in universities.On expansion of higher education, Mr. Lokesh announced the establishment of the India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER) in Amaravati. The new university will begin admissions in the 2025-26 academic year, with 20% seats reserved for local students. The institution will include affiliated centres for arbitration, mediation, judicial training, and continuing legal education, with a focus on research-oriented and globally competitive programs. The government has allocated 55 acres for the campus and plans to align its curriculum with international standards to attract prestigious global institutions.Polytechnic collegesIn technical education, Mr. Lokesh highlighted that 10 government polytechnic colleges currently lack dedicated buildings. Efforts are under way to construct campuses using State, MPLADS, and CSR funds, while new courses will be introduced next academic year to increase enrollments. With 3,282 vacant posts in universities and low admission rates in some degree colleges, the minister stressed the government’s commitment to providing modern facilities and relevant courses to enhance employability.Mr. Lokesh highlighted the government’s successful handling of the Mega DSC program and announced approval for a Children’s Assembly on November 26 to promote civic awareness among students. These initiatives demonstrate the Andhra Pradesh government’s commitment to strengthening higher education, ensuring transparency, and creating opportunities for youth development, he added.
