Soon you will get hands-on experience in Pokkali farming, if you are to travel to Ezhikkara, that is. You can take part in the many processes involved in Pokkali farming, indulge in the indigenous cuisine, and experience the culture and heritage of the land up close.Enter PAADI or Pokkali Aqua Agritourism Destination Initiative, an experiential village tourism package focusing on Pokkali farming and allied village activities. The tour package, initiated jointly by the Ernakulam District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) and Palliyakkal Service Co-operative Bank (PSCB), will enable travellers to experience Pokkali farming and the many facets of village life in Ezhikkara panchayat in Ernakulam.The council hopes to incorporate local communities and local knowledge in the experiential village farm tourism package.“The focus is on introducing tourists to the Pokkali farming technique, which in itself is a unique and indigenous rice and prawn cultivation system. Travellers will get to participate in Pokkali farming techniques, depending on when they choose to visit. For instance, if they visit now, they can take part in harvest activities,” said DTPC secretary Lijo Joseph.
