Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Friday inaugurated a library named after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the party headquarters, on the occasion of his 93rd birth anniversary. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Dr. Singh’s widow Gursharan Kaur and other family members were present.The library houses about 1,200 books, chronicling the journey of the Congress and the country. It features sections dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi, multiple volumes of The Encyclopedia of the Congress, as well as the party’s poll manifestoes.“Today on the occasion of the 93rd birth anniversary of Dr Manmohan Singh, the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party Sonia Gandhi ji inaugurated the Dr Manmohan Singh Research Center and Library in the presence of Gursharan Kaur ji,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X.Though the Congress had maintained an informal library at its 24, Akbar Road office, this is the first time the party has built a formal facility with more than 1,200 books at its new Indira Bhawan headquarters.
