President Donald Trump’s planned ballroom at the White House isn’t getting rave reviews from critics on social media. The 90,000-square-foot ballroom, announced over the summer, will dwarf the White House main residence, which is 55,000 square feet, not counting the East Wing and West Wing. CBS News obtained new renderings: Trump said in July the ballroom would be funded “by donors or whatever” and not taxpayer dollars. But critics noted that the oversized building stands as a monument to excess at a time when Trump has slashed federal programs in medical research, education, food and health care. The new ballroom also comes as Trump puts his personal touch on nearly every part of the White House. He paved over some of the Rose Garden for a patio, redecorated interior spaces, including the Oval Office and added two giant flagpoles to the lawn. But mostly, they really didn’t love the image of the monumental ballroom towering over the White House: Anyone who has ever seen Trump’s gaudy & grotesque Taj Mahal casino will not be shocked at how gaudy & grotesque this ballroom will be. It is vulgar, just like Trump. https://t.co/cQe00Tm5Zl— DocBarrister (@DocBarrister) September 26, 2025He’s minimizing the people’s house like he’s minimizing the country. I bet it will be called the Trump ballroom too. Grotesque— TmsB (@MS_Bifyouplease) September 25, 2025Trump’s ballroom (90,000 sq. ft) is nearly twice the size of the entire White House (55,000 sq. ft). Absurd and grotesque.— Hurst4Spd (@J_Hurstman) September 25, 2025It's not a ballroom. Stop kidding yourselves. It's going to be his gilded throne room. He'll stop using the White House anymore and go all medieval kings court! https://t.co/JLqc6XyFpB— 🫖Darling Jeeling🫖 (@Darling_Jeeling) September 25, 2025Nothing screams ‘man of the people’ like a $200M ballroom so Trump’s billionaire buddies can waltz while farmers go bankrupt.— Krystian🇺🇦 (@KpictiahNL) September 25, 2025Ballroom or self-aggrandising mausoleum?Such structures have been hallmarks of dictators throughout human history.— Rob Hoole 🇬🇧 🇺🇦 (@HooleRob) September 25, 2025It's called a ballroom. But it's intended as a throne room.— MalaProper (@ProperMala) September 25, 2025Most working Americans are barely putting food on the table and this greedy ape wants to build a monolith to avarice. It's almost mocking people at this point. https://t.co/7S6AirCPuf— World War Vee (@drop_kicker) September 25, 2025It's beyond horrible. Ostentatious. Presumptuous. Unilateral. Corrupt. Shameful. A huge monstrosity for rich & connected people to come, act obsequious, ask for favors, and make Trump's family insane amounts of money. While they conspire to screw the middle class and the poor. pic.twitter.com/3fQMAkyj2R— — • 𝗖 𝗛 𝗘 𝗘 𝗞 𝗬 • — (@andreagail_k) September 25, 2025Feeble attempt at a Greek temple, but as usual, the ratios, perspectives, scale all wrongMore dictator chic— Miguel Caball (@QuijoteMike) September 25, 2025I hate the whole idea of it and its huge footprint.
