Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (September 25, 2025) said India is laying the foundation for the coming decades with its resolve for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), stressing that self-reliance is a necessity, not an option.“There can be no greater helplessness than being dependent on others. In the changing world, the more a country depends on others, the more compromised its growth is going to be, that is why it is no longer acceptable for India to be dependent on anyone; we must become self-reliant,” said Mr. Modi, while inaugurating the third edition of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show at India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida.Also read: GST reforms kicked in from September 22He urged entrepreneurs and innovators to design business models that advance self-reliance and emphasised that only high-quality, user-friendly, and sustainable products can earn global recognition for Swadeshi goods.Highlighting reforms in Goods and Service Taxes, the Prime Minister said it has provided significant relief to consumers while energising trade and industry. “GST reforms will bring more savings in households every month, and this saving will further strengthen India’s growth story,” he said.Looking ahead to a developed India by 2047, Mr. Modi said that despite global uncertainties, India is charting a new course. “A young and skilled workforce, a dynamic consumer base, and democratic stability make India one of the world’s most attractive investment destinations,” he remarked.Turning to the economy in Uttar Pradesh, the Prime Minister said, “The State is full of extraordinary possibilities. In the last few years, a revolution in connectivity has reduced logistics costs. Uttar Pradesh has become the State with the most expressways and international airports, and projects such as the dedicated freight corridor and defence corridor are making it an industrial hub.”He noted that AK-203 rifle production in collaboration with Russia is set to begin in Uttar Pradesh and that the defence corridor will boost arms manufacturing. A major semiconductor facility near Greater Noida will make the State pivotal to India’s technological self-reliance, he said.Tourism destinationMr. Modi added that initiatives like Namami Gange and One District, One Product (ODOP) are promoting cruise and heritage tourism, placing Uttar Pradesh firmly on the global map. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, speaking at the event, said the State is rapidly emerging as a global hub for information technology, semiconductors, and electronics manufacturing, contributing over 55% of India’s mobile phone output and more than 50% of mobile component production. “Leading domestic and global companies are investing in semiconductors, and, recognising its importance, the State has granted IT the status of an industry,” Mr. Adityanath said.Citing improved law and order and a robust transportation network, the Chief Minister said the State offers a favourable investment climate that is attracting investors. “Industry, academia, research centres, and society at large must work together for a self-reliant and developed India.
