Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Three boys were hurt in a stabbing at a high school in Pittsburgh, and a fellow male classmate was taken into custody, authorities said Wednesday.

At 8:30 a.m., police, fire and EMS responded after reports of an altercation that led to a stabbing at Carrick High School, the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department posted on X.

The school in southern Pittsburgh has 549 students, according to U.S. News & Report.

Two students were taken to a hospital with injuries to their abdomens with one in critical condition and another in stable condition. Later, the department said a third victim suffered a minor laceration and was treated at the scene.
