BThe Opposition BJP on Wednesday took up a symbolic pothole-filling campaign in a few areas of Bengaluru city to draw the government’s attention to the bad condition of roads and demand that the government to allocate ₹10,000 crore for asphalting of all the roads in the city.Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok, who led the campaign in Basavanagudi area, demanded that instead of merely filling up pot-holes, the government should take up asphalting so that the roads would become motorable again.“Let the government provide a one-time grant of ₹10,000 crore for the asphalting of roads in Bengaluru. Otherwise, we may have to conclude that the government has become financially bankrupt,” he said.He accused Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who has blamed the erstwhile BJP government for not properly building and maintaining roads, of being insensitive to the problems of people. “The government should stop blaming the erstwhile BJP dispensation for the present problems as it has been over two and a half years since the Congress came to power in the state,” he remarked.Mr. Ashok appealed to general public to fill up the potholes in their area by themselves as a symbolic protest.
