Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu carrying the ‘silk vastrams’ on his head, in Tirumala on Wednesday.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday offered a pair of ‘pattu vastrams’ on behalf of the State government to Lord Venkateswara on the occasion of the commencement of the annual Brahmotsavams.Mr. Naidu was accompanied by wife Nara Bhuvaneswari, IT Minister and son Nara Lokesh, his wife N. Brahmani and their son N. Devaansh, and other family members.Clad in yellow silk robes, Mr. Naidu carried the ‘pattu vastrams’ placed in a silver plate on his head from the Sri Bedi Anjaneya Swamy temple to the main temple, where he handed them over to the chief priest. The ‘pattu vastrams’ would be adorned to the presiding deity on the auspicious Garuda Seva day on September 28.Mr. Naidu stood for about 10 minutes in front of the main deity. Later, the chief priest presented him the ‘sesha vastram’ of the Lord, which was followed by ‘vedasirvachanams’ by the temple priests and presentation of laddu prasadams by the authorities. He also formally released the 2026 New Year calendar.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu said he had the rare opportunity of donating the ‘silk vastrams’ for 14 times during his life, which he said was not possible without the divine blessings of the presiding deity.In an indirect reference to his survival in the Alipiri bomb blast 22 years ago, Mr. Naidu said Lord Venkateswara, whom he revered much, had blessed him with a second birth and purpose.Underlining the need for construction of temples of Lord Venkateswara in all the capital cities of various States and important places, Mr. Naidu said he would write request letters to the respective governments.Listing the various pilgrim-related activities introduced during his party’s rule, including the Nitya Annadanam by N.T. Rama Rao, Srivari Seva and other activities, he appealed to the TTD authorities to render service to the visiting pilgrims with the same zeal and commitment.Later, Mr. Naidu took part in the procession of the ‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’, the first vahana seva of the festival.Coincidentally, he also met Vice-President C.P.
