Students should treat failure as a lesson to improve on their performance and take guidance wherever possible, K. Shetrimayum Deepi Chanu, Assistant Collector (Training), Tiruchi, said in Tiruchi on Wednesday (September 24, 2025).In her address to students during the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Aspirants Meet organised by The Hindu and Shankar IAS Academy at Saranathan College of Engineering on Wednesday, Ms. Chanu said, “Hard work is non-negotiable. If you are not studying or working hard, you cannot achieve your goals in any field.”The civil servant narrated her own experiences as a UPSC aspirant and encouraged students to stay true to themselves in their pursuit of education. “This exam is luck-based. So, prepare for it in the best way possible, especially for the interview component. My initial failure taught me the importance of preparing for the interview. Since it is very individual-based, interviewers should be able to get what you are excited about, and whether your domain knowledge is strong. This is more important than dressing soberly or presenting a formal front during the interview,” she said.C. Prabakar, branch manager, Shankar IAS Academy, briefed the gathering on employment opportunities in government services. College principal D. Valavan, spoke.
