British executives are hiring bodyguards to protect their families amid the number of violent threats towards them soaring in the last two years.

Top brass in this country are beefing up their security more than anywhere else in Europe amid a rise in 'aggressive' activist groups threatening to smash windows and spray paint over office buildings.

The worrying trend in bosses protecting themselves in a ring of steel is highlighted in a report from security firm G4S.

The World Security Report found that more than a third (34 per cent) of UK-based security chiefs at large global companies believe the threat of violence towards company executives has increased since 2023.

Tim Kendall, president of G4S Secure Solutions in the UK and Ireland, warned 'we have entered a new era'.
