President Trump has demanded an “immediate investigation” into whether UN staff sabotaged him at the United Nations general assembly on Tuesday.
The president said “a real disgrace took place at the United Nations yesterday”. After a series of mishaps including the teleprompter failing to start, the escalator stopping and sound problems in the hall, Trump demanded the “three very sinister events” be investigated and the “people that did it should be arrested”.
Karoline Leavitt, the White House spokeswoman, told Fox News the Secret Service was investigating the allegations that Trump had been deliberately sabotaged by UN staff.
The first hiccup was when the escalator suddenly stopped as Melania Trump, the first lady, stepped on to it. On Tuesday Leavitt suggested on X that someone could have intentionally halted it, citing a Sunday Times report that UN workers had joked about turning off escalators and lifts so the president would have to walk up the stairs.
