Sept. 23 (UPI) -- First lady Melania Trump announced a global initiative to improve children's well-being through education, innovation and technology during the United Nation's 80th General Assembly on Tuesday.

The Fostering the Future Together initiative is to "ensure that every child can flourish in the digital era," the first lady told the audience.

"Innovation is wonderful," Trump said. "Our nations benefit from advancements in technology [by] saving lives, expanding access to knowledge, connecting people and, of course, safety."

She mentioned early childhood activities, such as playing marbles, flying paper airplanes and flying kites, as common childhood pastimes that can lead to future innovations.

"Great minds have turned marbles into microchips, paper airplanes into drones and kites into satellites," Trump said.
